Olight Baton Ultra

Olight Baton Ultra

The April 2026 Baton flagship finally gives the line what fans begged for: hidden USB-C charging under the tailcap alongside the classic MCC magnetic puck, plus a metal tail switch backing up the side e-switch. Olight's self-developed EIP 1 LED pushes 1800 lumens through a TIR lens for a defined 300m hotspot, and the body is machined from OAL superalloy for extra scratch and drop resistance (2m rated, IPX8). The catch is the customized dual-terminal 18650 - standard cells won't work - and the cool 5800-6700K tint. ZeroAir called it a 'big winner' largely on the strength of that USB-C adoption.

Beam profile

Balanced, about 18° wide. A usable hotspot with enough spill to see around it.

What owners report

Olight Baton Ultra/5 sources reviewed

The largest of the current Batons, at over 1,600 lumens with real throw, dual switches and Olight's proprietary OAL aluminium — a material reviewers say feels sturdy and resists scratching despite the light weight. A strong metal clip and magnetic tail let you attach it to clothing, packs or steel, it runs over three hours at its brightest, and it's drop-rated to two metres. Like the Baton 4 Pro it takes both MCC magnetic charging and a hidden tailcap USB-C port, which is a first for the line and a substantial improvement. Reviewers who tested both recommend the Ultra specifically for having a much better beam.

The caveats are Olight's usual ones, and enthusiasts state them plainly: the emitters aren't the most tint-accurate, the interface doesn't approach Anduril's flexibility, and the closed ecosystem locks you into proprietary charging. The supplied cell is a protected proprietary 3,500mAh 18650 and standard cells won't work — though Olight has made this cell for years, so availability isn't a concern. The front gets hot on the brightest setting.

Consistently praised

  • Over 1,600 lumens with a beam reviewers rate above the Baton 4 Pro's
  • Both MCC magnetic charging and a hidden USB-C port in the tailcap
  • OAL aluminium — sturdy and scratch-resistant for the weight
  • Strong metal clip plus magnetic tail, and drop-rated to two metres
  • Over three hours of runtime at the brightest setting

Common complaints

  • The front gets hot on the brightest setting
  • Emitters aren't tint-accurate by enthusiast standards
  • Interface nowhere near Anduril's flexibility
  • Proprietary protected 18650 — standard cells won't work
  • Closed ecosystem tying you to Olight's accessories

Questions people ask

Baton Ultra or Baton 4 Pro?
Reviewers who tested both recommend the Ultra, specifically because the beam is much better. It's also larger, so the Pro remains the more pocketable of the two.
Can I use a standard 18650?
No — it takes Olight's protected proprietary cell. The mitigating factor is that Olight has produced this cell for years, so replacements should stay available.
Does it charge over USB-C?
Yes, via a hidden port in the tailcap, alongside the MCC magnetic contacts. That combination is new to the Baton line and addresses its longest-standing criticism.
What do enthusiasts hold against it?
Tint accuracy, interface flexibility and the closed ecosystem. None of those stop it being a very well-made light — they're the reasons someone might choose an Emisar or Skilhunt instead.
