Olight Baton 4

Olight/EDC

Olight Baton 4

The mainstream EDC king, generation four. The Baton 4 pushes 1300 lumens from a thumb-sized body with Olight's magnetic charging tailcap. Enthusiasts gripe about the proprietary 16340 cell and cool tint, but it's still the light everyone's coworker carries.

Beam profile

Balanced, about 28° wide. A usable hotspot with enough spill to see around it.

What owners report

Olight Baton 4/5 sources reviewed

The Baton 4 is Olight doing what Olight does well: a very small, very well-finished light with a strong magnetic tailcap and a charging case, aimed at people who want it to just work rather than to be configured. Reviewers consistently rate the fit, finish and attention to detail as excellent, and the magnetic base gets singled out as genuinely useful — strong enough to hold the light sideways on steel while you work.

The long-running complaint against Olight is proprietary charging. The MCC magnetic system is convenient and the charging case is a nice object, but it means carrying Olight's cable rather than the USB-C cable already in your bag. Olight has heard this: the newer Baton 4 Pro keeps MCC and adds a hidden USB-C port, which reviewers treat as the fix. Worth knowing when comparing listings, because the Baton 4, the Baton 4 Premium Edition with the charging case, and the Baton 4 Pro are all sold alongside each other at quite different prices.

Consistently praised

  • Build quality, fit and finish are consistently rated as excellent
  • Very small — reviewers describe it as disappearing into a pocket
  • Strong magnetic tailcap that holds the light at 90 degrees on steel
  • The Premium Edition's charging case doubles as a power bank and a carry case
  • Simple interface that works without reading anything
  • Sold everywhere with a real warranty and returns process, unlike the enthusiast brands

Common complaints

  • Proprietary MCC magnetic charging on the base Baton 4 rather than USB-C
  • Costs considerably more than enthusiast lights with better emitters and output
  • Cool, low-CRI output — colour rendering is not what you buy this for
  • Three overlapping versions (Baton 4, Premium Edition, Baton 4 Pro) make listings confusing
  • Little user configurability compared with an Anduril light at half the price

Questions people ask

Does the Baton 4 charge over USB-C?
The base Baton 4 uses Olight's proprietary MCC magnetic charger. The newer Baton 4 Pro adds a hidden USB-C port alongside MCC, which is the version to buy if carrying a proprietary cable bothers you.
Is the Premium Edition worth the extra money?
The Premium Edition adds the charging case, which holds several full recharges and doubles as a power bank. If you travel with the light it's genuinely useful; if it lives on a bedside table it isn't worth the difference.
How does it compare with a Wurkkos or Sofirn at half the price?
The budget lights win on emitter quality, output per pound and configurability. The Olight wins on finish, the magnetic accessories ecosystem, and having an actual warranty and support line. Which matters more depends entirely on whether you enjoy tinkering.
Is the magnet strong enough to be useful?
Yes — reviewers report it holding the light horizontally on a flat steel surface, which is the demanding case. It's one of the most-praised features and a large part of why people keep buying Batons.
