The SP35 is a plain, well-made 21700 light that does the obvious things right: an SST-40 behind a smooth reflector for a defined hotspot and real throw, USB-C charging that actually pulls around 2A, and build quality reviewers say would be reasonable even at a higher price.

It isn't a tint enthusiast's light. The SST-40 is cool and low-CRI, which is the trade for the output and reach. The other thing worth knowing is a Sofirn family trait rather than an SP35-specific fault: the thermal sensor on several models in this range ships poorly calibrated and can decide the light is overheating and step down early. There are published calibration procedures for it.

Questions people ask

What's the difference between the SP35 and the SP35T?: The SP35T is the tactical variant with a dual-switch tail and a forward clicky for momentary use. The SP35 is the side-switch version. Same body, different interface.
Why does it step down so early?: Often a miscalibrated thermal sensor rather than genuine overheating — a known quirk on this Sofirn generation. The temperature calibration can be reset, and published guides walk through it.
Does it take 18650 cells?: It's built around a 21700. Some Sofirn 21700 lights ship with an adapter sleeve for 18650s, but contact can be less reliable and you lose most of the capacity advantage.
Is the beam good for outdoor use?: Yes — the smooth reflector puts a usable hotspot a few hundred metres out, which suits walking and property checks. For close work the cool, low-CRI tint is its weak point.
