A compact 21700 triple that reviewers describe as car-headlight output in a pocket format, with build quality they rate above comparable budget brands. The package is generous — clip, magnetic tailcap, steel bezel, lanyard, USB-C charging and a power bank function — and it lands around $35 to $47.

The dominant complaint is thermal throttling, and it's specific enough to be actionable. The default configuration steps down at 45°C, which causes continuous current cuts and pins sustained output to a few hundred lumens despite the light being capable of over 2,000. Raising the thermal ceiling in the firmware largely fixes it. There is also an odd parasitic drain: the amber status LED pulls around 13mA on its high setting because of an undersized resistor, which will flatten a cell over time if you leave it on.

Questions people ask

Why does it dim so quickly on high?: The default thermal ceiling is set to 45°C, which is conservative enough to throttle the light almost immediately. Raising the ceiling in the firmware restores most of the sustained output — this is the single most worthwhile thing to change.
What is the status LED drain about?: An undersized resistor on the USB controller means the amber indicator pulls around 13mA on its high setting. Left on, that will drain the cell over weeks. Set it low or off for storage.
Does it really make 3,500 lumens?: Briefly, and measured output comes in under the declared figure. What matters more is sustained output, which is thermally limited until you adjust the ceiling.
Is it a good first enthusiast light?: The hardware is, but the firmware isn't especially beginner-friendly and the light needs configuring to perform. If you want something that works well out of the box, look at the FC11.
