Weltool W3 Pro

Weltool/Thrower

Weltool W3 Pro

Not an LED at all — the W3 Pro uses a laser-excited phosphor (LEP) module that fires a 363,000-candela pencil beam over 1,200 meters from a head barely wider than the tube. Only 505 lumens, but they all go exactly where you point them. A forward-clicky tail with momentary, a sane two-mode UI, and an included USB-C 21700 make it the LEP that 1lumen calls the one to get.

Beam profile

Pencil thrower, about 2.4° wide. A tight, far-reaching column with almost no spill.

What owners report

Weltool W3 Pro/4 sources reviewed

An LEP light rather than an LED one — a laser-excited phosphor source, which is what allows 363,000 candela and 1,206 metres of throw from only 505 lumens. That ratio is the whole point: almost all of the output goes into a very tight column. Independent testing measured 363,000 cd against a claimed 363,375, which is about as close to spec as any light in this catalog gets.

Build quality draws real praise: the matte anodising gives it a higher-class look, the knurling is good, and there's reverse-polarity and thermal protection. It runs a 21700 and ships with a 5,000mAh high-amp cell. The one recurring irritation is mechanical: because the head-side o-ring has almost no lubrication and bare aluminium threads, trying to unscrew the tailcap often unscrews the head instead.

Consistently praised

  • 1,206 m of throw and 363,000 candela — the longest reach in the catalog
  • Measured performance essentially identical to the published spec
  • Beautiful matte anodising and good knurling
  • Reverse-polarity and thermal protection built in
  • Ships with a high-amp 5,000mAh 21700

Common complaints

  • Unscrewing the tailcap often unscrews the head instead
  • Only 505 lumens — useless as a general-purpose light
  • LEP beams are extremely tight, with almost no spill
  • Low CRI, inherent to the technology
  • Expensive for the lumen figure if you don't specifically want reach

Questions people ask

What is an LEP light?
Laser-excited phosphor: a blue laser is fired at a phosphor target, producing white light from a tiny emitting area. Because the source is so small, a reflector can collimate it far more tightly than any LED — which is how 505 lumens reaches 1,200 m.
Is 505 lumens enough?
Not for general use. An LEP puts almost everything into a narrow column, so there's very little spill to light your surroundings. This is a spotting tool, not a torch.
Why does the head unscrew instead of the tailcap?
The head-side threads are bare aluminium with almost no lubrication on the o-ring, so they offer less resistance than the tail. A little silicone grease on the head threads fixes it.
How accurate are the specs?
Unusually accurate — testing measured 363,000 candela against a claimed 363,375. Weltool publishes figures that hold up, which is worth noting in this category.
