The third version of one of the most widely owned tactical lights ever made, upgraded to a Luminus SFT40 that lifts maximum output from 1,000 to 1,700 lumens. Reviewers praise the turbo power, the beam and tint, the regulation, and the completeness of the package — a good lanyard, USB cable and holster. The 18650 tube handles well, balances properly, and is sized for one-handed operation of both switches. Thermal and reverse-polarity protection are both built in.

The limitations are narrow. Only the cool white tint is sold. The 5-lumen eco level is too bright for complete darkness if you're trying not to be seen. You can't switch the light on with the side switch — it only changes modes. Fenix ships a lower-capacity cell when they have a 3,500mAh one available. And the reeding isn't as grippy as on some other Fenix models.

Can I get it in neutral white?: No — only the cool white tint is sold. For a light otherwise this well made, it's the most commonly requested change.
Why can't the side switch turn it on?: By design: the tail switch handles power and the side switch only cycles modes. It's a deliberate tactical layout, but it surprises people coming from side-switch EDC lights.
Is the eco mode low enough?: At 5 lumens it's low for general use but too bright if you're trying to stay unseen in full darkness. There's no true moonlight level.
Should I buy a better battery?: Reviewers think so — Fenix makes a 3,500mAh cell but ships a smaller one. Upgrading is a cheap way to add meaningful runtime.
